Facial recognition technology is the future of community supervision

We are living in the age of technology, and it’s vitally important to keep up with advancements in all industries — including corrections and community supervision. Corrisoft is always looking for new ways to leverage tech to enhance the lives of participants and streamline supervision activities. We’re proud to introduce the latest feature added to the AIR® product suite: facial recognition.

Traditional ankle monitoring technology was just the start

Traditional, bulky ankle monitors have been around for decades. It’s hard to conceal, requires participants to sit — sometimes hours at a time — while the device charges, and can generally be uncomfortable to wear.

While these devices are necessary in some circumstances, smartphone technology and apps are great resources for lower-risk individuals. It’s discrete, easy to use, and gives justice-involved individuals instant access to resources and supervision officers.

Smartphone technology is the future

Look at the people around you. How many do you see using a smartphone? According to Pew Research Center, 97% of Americans own a cell phone, and nine in ten own a smartphone. The odds are that someone going through a supervision program already has access to these devices, which is what makes the AIR® Check-In App a valuable resource. Participants already have the device, so agencies just need the software.

For those who don’t have a smartphone, there is AIR® Mobile. This device not only gives justice-impacted individuals a reliable form of communication, it also gives them a sense of normalcy. It eliminates the stigma of traditional ankle monitoring, allowing them to blend in with the crowd.

Facial recognition is a critical piece of the puzzle

While investing in technology is costly, it’s worth the purchase. By going with a more expensive investment option, agencies still save money and time in the long run. Corrisoft’s new facial recognition add-on feature is the perfect example. It adds another layer of security, automates monotonous tasks, and increases the efficiency of supervision, which streamlines overall agency operations.

Before, supervision officers would have to go into the AIR® platform and manually approve every photo submitted by a participant. Facial recognition streamlines this process by assigning a passing or failing score to submission in real-time using pre-uploaded reference photos. Supervision officers are only alerted when photos fail, allowing them the opportunity to jump in and correct any situation before it becomes a bigger issue.

Our customers are another important part of the puzzle. In addition to it being the right time in the tech market to develop this feature, it was their feedback that encouraged us to make this feature possible. In fact, the idea for facial recognition came from a customer advisory board meeting. We take all of the requests, input, and feedback to heart. We want to make sure our services are for them and their participants.

“Corrisoft AIR’s Facial Recognition and enhanced automation have been a game-changer for our company,” said a customer at a reentry facility. “The new features have enabled us to verify the identity of our clients quickly with high accuracy, reducing the burden on our staff, increasing our trust, and reducing time spent on unneeded compliance issues, allowing for a shift to what’s important.”
